People are ignorant. Not all people. But in general, people are ignorant.

I've browsing through this site, and I think a lot lot lot of the deviants are missing the point.

There is not set definition of art, I mean, there can't be. There's only how people define it. Me? Art is an expression; it is an offset of one's self, their soul (if you may), their being, their essence. Now, some may argue "Oh, I like such-and-such so I took a picture of it. That's a reflection of me."
Not really. Where's the thought in it? Have you really thought about why you liked it, and highlighted that? You can't simply take a picture or draw something just because you like it. Because chances are, you don't like all of it. There needs to be some sort of connection beyond just liking it.

What you create is supposed to have some of yourself in it, whether or not that apparent. That's the "meaning" of art. I'm tired of people downsizing the art they don't understand. Yes, some art is pretty plain, but that doesn't detract from its artistic value.

Yes, anyone can paint a red square on a white background. Yes, many people will say, "that's just a red square." and say that it's not art, it has no meaning. But what if it does? How can you sit there and say that, just because it doesn't appeal to you?

I hate arguing over art with someone who is not an artist, because each side ends up calling the other pretentious. And it's probably true. They're pretentious for downsizing something they don't understand, I'm pretentious for saying they don't understand.

Hell, I think all artists are a bit pretentious. And, as a pretentious artist, I'd like to say that a lot of the shit posted on here isn't art, because where is the self reflection? Oh yay, you drew a picture of Naruto. But what does show of you? Granted, I've seen some very nice fan arts done, and I think they deserve artistic credit. Because they're not merely copied or traced, they are made with the artists' own style.

And don't get me started on some of the photos on here.
